The Switzer Bridge became Kentucky's "Official Covered Bridge" in (1998).  It once carried KY
1262 across Northern Elkhorn Creek at Switzer in Eastern Franklin county.  The bridge is no
longer open to vehicular traffic, but foot travel is still welcome.  It is a 120 foot long Howe truss
design, built by George Hockensmith in 1855.  In 1997 it was knocked from its foundation by high
water and was rebuilt in 1998.  The Switzer Bridge is one of only 13 covered bridges remaining in
Kentucky.
