Tennessee's State Rock - Limestone
State Prints© Celebrating the official symbols of your state....

Limestone (Calcium carbonate) became Tennessee's "Official Rock" in (1979). Limestone rocks are sedimentary rocks. They are made from the mineral calcite, which came from the beds of evaporated seas and lakes and from sea animal shells. Limestone is found just about everywhere in Tennessee. This rock is used in concrete and is an excellent building stone for humid regions. Residents of the state affectionately call limestone, Tennessee marble.
