Tennessee's Wildflower - Passion Flower
State Prints©
Celebrating the official symbols of your state....
The Passion Flower (Passiflora) was declared the "State Wildflower" of Tennessee in (1973).  The
passion flower is also commonly called "May Pop" and the "Wild Apricot".  This flower grows wild in
the southern part of the United States and in South America.  It received its name from early
Christian missionaries to South America, who saw in the flower's various parts the following symbols
of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ: the three crosses, the crown of thorns, nails and cords.
